Description:  The ex DLW line now operated by CP runs close to the Susquehanna through parts of Conklin. One good spot is where it crosses under the bridge from Kirkwood at the south end of Broome Corporate Park, where this photo was taken. In the winter it gives a good shot of a train here, in this case, 558 with a pair of SDs and 38 cars.

Title:  CP SD40-2 #5583 - Canadian Pacific
Description:  Interesting paint scheme with a varied and argued history is the "Pac-man" logo (or what CP would call a multimark) on the rear of this SD40-2 unit. This "multimark" appeared sometime in the late 1960's as a full logo from the top to bottom of the rear end. Because painting over the vents proved expensive and time consuming a smaller version like this one appeared around 1987. No photographer or location was given for the photo but it appears to be SK yard in Buffalo, NY.

Description:  Train 166 rolls south near Hallstead on the ex DLW. Note the yellow sign pointing off to the left. The D&H used these to indicate an upcoming grade crossing or other obstruction, the purpose being to warn plow operators to raise the plow blade to avoid damage to the plow(and a possible derailment) or to track structures. These are all over the D&H proper, and now on the ex DLW too, though this one has probably been there 20 years by now.

Title:  Drab day
Description:  Id go out in pretty much anything, on the theory that trains ran no matter what, so it would be a good idea to record the action. Besides, the Tier weather being what it is, if I only went out on good days, Id see ten trains a year. Still, January could be especially bleak, sometimes with only 30% of the possible sun coming through. On one of those days, 557 rolls around the big curve at MP 231. I was the only one to witness the event.

Description:  After NS took over running what had been trains 166 and 167, there were some symbol changes, though it took a while for them to become permanent. In the meanwhile, they sometimes took on NS alphabet soup symbols. They called this on F1G, seen here coming around the curve past the old Erie station.
